Back from Europe and a fantastic summermeeting, logs from August 2

We arrived home from our European vacation about a week ago, but the weather has been so hot and sunny that we have just continued the holiday on our patio. :-)

The only disappointing part of the entire trip was the crappy little radio that I took with me.  It simply didn't work on mediumwave at all (just noise), and sw was almost as bad.  Despite a nice high location, no luck in Amsterdam, or in Rhodes (but it was fun trying as the sun set over Amsterdam).

One of the highlights of the trip was definitely the summermeeting.  It was so unique to travel so far, and then meet so many friends all in a couple of days!  There were so many people there that I didn't get a chance to talk to everyone as much as I would have liked, but it was an enjoyable and very busy time.  Thanks to Frans and all the "staff" for a fantastic meeting.

I managed a little listening last night, and it was nice to hear Borderhunter with a very long show, and several other familiar voices.

A month of late logs and some upcoming listening in Europe

I have been terrible about posting logs this past month.  I have been extremely busy, both with work and planning our upcoming trip to Europe.

As many of you know, I will be travelling to the summermeeting next weekend.  I am really looking forward to meeting some old friends, and making some new ones.

Besides summermeeting, we will be travelling around Europe for a while.  Without even realizing it, I seem to have picked many of  the countries most associated with free radio ... Ireland, UK, Germany, Greece, Italy, France, Germany.  I could not resist buying a tiny Grundig AM/FM/SW radio to take with me.  Admittedly, it is a pretty crappy radio, but only 200 grams, so perfect for travel. It goes up to 1710 kHz on mw, but only covers every 10 kHz.  The sw band is particularly weak, but at least it covers 5800-6400 and 6800-7600 kHz.  (I will bring a small coil of antenna wire that may help on sw.)

Perhaps my best opportunity for listening in Holland will be next Wednesday and Thursday nights.  I have a hotel room in Amsterdam with a rooftop terrace that should provide a good listening location.  I am not sure how much time I will have for listening (we have dinner plans both nights), but I hope to listen at least an hour or so later in the evening.  It should be a lot of fun to "listen like a local".
