A few weeks ago, I got this crazy idea to make my own rijstaffel. Considering that I had only made one Indonesian dish before, and I knew next to nothing about Indonesian cooking, or if I could get the necessary ingredients locally, it seemed more than a little crazy. But I can be a determined little bugger sometimes ;-)
For anyone who is curious, these are the dishes I chose :
Sate ayam & kambing - chicken & lamb satay
Daging rending - beef rendang
Daging semur - meat stew
Gule Kambing - coconut lamb stew
Martabak - lamb stuffed pancakes
Sambal goreng buncis - fried beans
Sambal goreng kentang - fried potatoes
Sayur ledoh - vegetable stew
Acar campur - pickled vegetables
Sambal ulek - chilli paste
Sambal kecap - soy sauce with chillies
Sambal kacang - peanut sauce
Serundeng - fried grated coconut
Pisang goreng - fried bananas
Krupuk - shrimp crackers
Nasi putih - white rice
The sambal ulek came from a bottle, but everything else was made fresh (quite the organizational challenge).
