QSL from Red Mercury Labs, most distant pirate ever!!!

I received this excellent QSL from Red Mercury Labs (US) for a reception Saturday night.

What makes it extra special is the distance, which is a new record for me.  I don't like to give numbers when talking about a US pirate, since they tend to be rather secretive, but I will say it was further than my previous record of Radio Snowball from Russia!

Thanks RML!

New QSLs: Witte Raaf, Vixen, Trans Europe, Batavia

It was a great week for QSLs.

Radio Witte Raaf (White Raven) sent me his brand new QSL.  This was for a reception on October 22, 2011 on mediumwave.

Thanks Witte Raaf!

Radio Vixen International  from the US sent me a new card for my reception last night.  (Looks like Fox 48,Bonofox, and Sluwe Vos have some female company on sw.  Too bad she's at least 5000 km away, hi)

Thanks RVI!

Trans Europe Radio sent me this nice pic of his unique transmitter as a QSL.  Nice rig!

Thanks TER!

Batavia sent me this QSL for last Friday's reception (not sure how Radio Gaga got on the pic, hi).

Thanks Batavia!

And finally, this unique pic from Radio Rainbow.

Thanks for the comment RRI, but I know 99% of my success is only due to my unique location.

Incredibly good job of matching the letters to the balloon though.  Very professional job.

Thanks for all the great QSLs and pics guys.  There is nothing better than getting home from a long day and finding these gems in the inbox.

Cheers, Terry

Balkan Radio Int., new station on air soon

A few weeks ago I found a blog for a new station that was being set up: http://www.balkanradiointernational.blogspot.com/.  They plan to have regular broadcasts with transmitters in 2 Balkan countries.

I have been in contact with the station, and the latest news is:

"We are working on the free radio station, slowly but surely. We are going to be on air for the next Global HF Pirate Weekend and then on air regularly every second weekend. Take a look at the "schedule" page. I prepared the first DX program and I'll post is as a podcast soon".

sample QSL from BRI blog

Best of luck BRI, and I hope to hear you soon.

QSL from Renegade Radio

I received this nice retro QSL from Renegade Radio (US) for my reception last weekend.

Renegade has had some very nice live shows, with shout-outs (greetings) to listeners.  Similar to many European stations, and very enjoyable.

Thanks Renegade!

Logs, March 6

It was a very quiet night on shortwave.  Just a couple weak mw logs tonight.

1629.0 . . 2202 . UNID (Greece), very weak Greek music and talk by man with echo effect, just above the noise, faded after 5 minutes, another brief peak at 2225 with music (possibly Anatolia)

1633,0 . . 2314 . Radio Barcelona, barely audible music and talk, apparently part of a QSO with Radio Nordzee (who was just a carrier here on 1636)

QSL from Radio Luka for 2009 report!

I received a very nice surprise in the inbox today ... this QSL from Radio Luka for a December, 2009 reception.

The op said that this is the first QSL sent from Luka, which makes it extra special.  And what a spectacular Dutch sunset!

Thanks!
